Fusion Garage’s JooJoo (formerly known as the CrunchPad) was slated for release in December 2009, before being shelved. JooJoo is now in full-production with a new round of funding by the CSL Group – the largest OEM in Malaysia – and has hit stores.
The joojoo has a 12.1″ capacitive touchscreen, which means it is about as responsive as an iPhone touchscreen.. two-finger zoom out gesture lets you switch between tabs; a pinch to zoom-in gesture takes you back to the homepage.
The Joojoo will support Flash and Silverlight, allowing users to surf the web as it’s meant to be surfed. In terms of hardware it features wifi, 4 Gb memory, a webcam and a USB port. The new Nvidia ION chipset powers this tablet, which explains its ability to play 1080p HD videos.
JooJoo runs a custom operating system built by Fusion Garage and boots in just under nine seconds directly to a homepage screen. It’s fast and takes the user directly to services that they may use.
The JooJoo will feature a Web App Store on which developers can showcase their applications. It will also be made simpler to develop applications for the JooJoo, with the ongoing implantation of APIs, which will let developers access the hardware easily.
JooJoo is heavy for a tablet, at 2.4lbs. Coming to battery life, the JooJoo is rated at just 5 hours but this would probably be because of its large screen size.
Open for pre-order, it is priced at $499 at https://thejoojoo.com/
