First International Computer, a Taiwan based manufacturer of notebooks and desktops launched their first tablet, the ‘Tycoon’, running on windows.
The tablet has a 10.1″ LED screen and will run Windows 7 Ultimate. Powered by a Intel Atom N455 procesor paired with a Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator, the tablet allows for flawless HD video playback. The tablet is commuter friendly, weighing 840 grams.
It incorporates 2GB DDR3 RAM, has 2 USB (2.0) ports and a mini HDMI for video out, besides 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Since Windows 7 supports multi-touch by default, the platform does not seem to have been redesigned for the tablet. Dismal battery performance of just 3 hours. If you were looking for a portable tablet like form factor for your Windows PC then go for the tycoon, as you the experience is more like a PC than a tablet with apps.
The Tycoon tablet is available on sale at $660 in Taiwan on the U Life TV shopping channel. FIC is expecting sales to be around 1000 pieces a month at the domestic level.
